Unlocking the 30-Year Secret I Kept Hidden

A quiet voice in the back of my mind. Easy to ignore, impossible to silence completely.

For years, it sat there alongside the confusion, the questions, and the shame. I wondered if people would still accept me if I admitted I didn’t quite fit into the neat little box society expected me to occupy.

Then I hit my 30s, and that voice got louder.
Too loud to ignore.
About eight months ago, I found myself in a group chat with two friends. What started as innocent conversation quickly took a more flirtatious turn. We shared photos, fantasies, and conversations I’d never imagined myself having. At 33 years old, I was doing things I’d never done before.

What surprised me most wasn’t that I enjoyed the photos my male friend was sending.

It was that I enjoyed the photos my female friend was sending too.That single realisation cracked something open.

The more I explored, the more I found myself drawn towards women. For the first time in my life, I felt empowered rather than ashamed of my sexuality. I cautiously labelled myself “bi-curious” and spent months exclusively connecting with women.

What a wild ride that turned out to be. I met women who were discovering themselves just like I was. Women who empowered me. Women who made me feel beautiful, desirable, and confident.

Women who showed incredible patience as I learned a whole new side of myself. But despite how much I was enjoying it, something felt incomplete. Eventually, I realised what it was. I missed men too. And with that came another wave of guilt. How could I want both? Why wasn’t one enough? The answer was surprisingly simple.

Because both are part of who I am. So somewhere along this journey, “bi-curious” stopped fitting. A few months ago, I finally stopped questioning myself and started accepting myself.

I am bisexual. Have I officially come out? Not really. Although I suppose posting this is about as close as it gets. There’s still so much of myself left to explore, but for the first time in my life, I’m doing it without shame. And that’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
