It’s that time of again, and we’re back with another look at DYI sex toy advent calendars!
We have some updated examples, new toy suggestions, and other fun stuff that might help you craft the perfect sexy holiday countdown – but with goodies tailored to you and/or your partner (instead of a wash of generic items). And the best part? It can be customized to any budget level!
But where to start? Well, you’ll need something to hold your little gems.
TO BOX YOUR SEXY ADVENT CALENDAR OR NOT
While traditional advent calendars use boxes, that doesn’t mean you have to. However, if you want to go that route there are a ton of online options. There are cheap ones made out of cardboard and nicer ones made out of wood (if you want to keep it after).
There are slide-out drawers or ones with perforated covers (where you put the gifts in the back). It’s totally up to you. All you have to do is decorate the outside.
But if you don’t want boxes, you don’t have to!
Just look up “DIY advent calendars” and you’ll see plenty of creative ways to display your countdown gifts. There are some that are just little envelopes where you can write messages and then simply hand over a wrapped gift. Another option is a basket of wrapped gifts with numbers on them – and your partner just needs to rummage around for the correct date.
But my personal favorite is hanging the gifts in a row (still with numbers) from something decorative. It can be from the end of your bed or over the mantel (or hidden away if you have to hide this particular gift set from younger eyes).
WHAT TO PUT IN YOUR SEXY ADVENT CALENDAR?
Generally, the idea is to stick to smaller (more inexpensive) items – things you can play around with each day you open them. But if you have more money to burn that doesn’t mean you can’t splurge on bigger items.
Here is a list of smaller items that will fit perfectly in a sexy advent calendar.
- Sexy Dice – These can either be the ones that have sex positions on them or the ones with different body parts and different action combinations.
- Nipple Pasties – Pretty nipple stickers come in all shapes and designs (some are also edible for extra fun).
- Bullet Vibrator – Little sex toys like this are perfect not only for their size but for their wide range of price points.
- Silk Blindfold – Beginner sensory deprivation is a great way to dip your toes into light BDSM play. Taking away sight makes the other senses heightened.
- Feather Tickler – Since we have something that is going to heighten our senses, why not add another toy the next day that will add some more fun on top of that? Feather ticklers are perfect for teasing your partner and getting them raring to go for more.
- Beginner Butt Plug – Okay, they don’t have to be beginner ones, but I only mention this because if your partner is interested in anal play, there are tiny plugs out there that are the width of a finger and perfect for beginner bum stuff.
- Cock Ring – If you can get one that has a nub for clit stimulation, then both partners can feel pleasure. Just make sure you get one that fits comfortably/properly.
- Nipple Clamps – They come in all forms. Some even vibrate! But if you’re new to nipple play, make sure you get the ones that are adjustable.
- Nipple Suckers – These are sort of like little suction cups. You fit them to the nipples and squeeze the bulbs at the end. The sensation it creates can be quite amazing.
- Masturbation Sleeve – No, not the big expensive ones like Fleshlights (unless you really want to go the expensive route). There are cheap sleeves like Tenga eggs that are small and great for using a few times and then throwing away.
- Handcuffs – Stay away from the fuzzy ones or anything with metal. The fabric/padded ones that are secured with Velcro are far safer and do exactly the same thing (restricting your partner’s movements). Make sure you have a safe word!
- Scented Candle – Find out what your partner’s favorite scent is and grab one to toss in the calendar!
- Massage Candle – I know some people might be wondering why I’m not putting wax play candles on here. For me, they’re just too tricky/unsafe for people who don’t know what they’re doing. Instead, grab a massage candle! You can have the illusion of wax play but with an amazing massage after!
- Massage Oil – If you don’t want to play with fire at all, there are plenty of massage oils (edible or not) to suit any preference. Just make sure to keep the stuff away from your private parts. It’s not meant for there.
- Sexy Underwear – This is one of the reasons I don’t like pre-made sexy advent calendars. They always come with panties, but it’s impossible to have a one-size-fits-all. And you definitely don’t want your lover to feel like crap because they don’t fit. Instead, go out and buy a sexy pair you know will fit them and make them feel fabulous.
- Anal Beads – Best if you’re at least semi-used-to anal play. Make sure they’re made from body-safe silicone and there are no holes in the beads (which makes them impossible to clean).
- Ball Gag – Just get a simple one if you’re new to this kind of toy. Also, silicone is better because it’s more comfortable on the teeth.
- Garter Belt – Because…. Why not?
- Perfume – Whatever drives your partner wild.
SEXY ADVENT CALENDAR CLOSING THOUGHTS
You see there are a mountain of choices out there – and most of them small enough to fit in a regular advent calendar. But don’t let this list limit your imagination. You can put in anything that will stoke the fires of passion – love letters, jewelry, IOW sex notes or coupons, naughty photos, etc.
Also, have fun making it – and even more fun watching your partner open it!
