The game is set in the far future, where technology has reached new heights, and pleasure has broken the boundaries of imagination and crashed them into reality. You play as, Captain Hardcore – an engineer-ish type individual. You navigate your ship (with a very on-the-nose name, which I’ll let you discover and giggle about on your own) around the galaxy/universe to find sexually charged lady specimens from different planets.

And if that last part surprised you, come on – just look at the game title.

Captain Hardcore blends cyberpunk styles with a darker, gritty back setting and impressive graphics. You can create your own avatar in impressive detail. There is some basic combat with your gun, but the focus is on the women you find and the engineering portion where you can alter them through a pretty crazy-detailed customization.

At the moment there are two options for gameplay. First is the regular version (sometimes called PC Version, or Lastest Build). Second, is the sandbox version called Captain Hardcore Quest. For this review, we’re going to focus on the first one, the PC game.

It can be played with a VR gaming headset and the other doodads that come with it (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Rift S, Oculus Quest) but you can still play the game out of VR with just your keyboard and mouse.

I don’t have VR stuff but, from what I saw in user video reviews, the gameplay is what I expected. I’m not a fan of the currently clunky mechanics of virtual reality. And it’s even more present in this game. But that might just be me. However, with the PC/keyboard setting, I felt right at home.

The graphics were, let’s face it, utterly impressive – especially for what you’re paying. I don’t know if it was all programmed from scratch or if there were pre-paid elements fitted in. If there were, I couldn’t tell the difference. If AntiZero could comment, I would love to know.

The ship has several rooms where you can move your ladies and play with them. There’s also an area where you can modify them. But the developer went even further. You can use joint points to position your characters however you like. They can be sitting on your bridge (innuendo intended), lying on your bed, or crouched in doggy style ready to play with the crazy amount of sex toys that are available.

How you get down and dirty is up to you. You can have vanilla sex or get into some intense BDSM. Whatever floats your boat, your ship is your playground. Here are some of the sex toys you’ll have at your disposal.

As for quests and storylines, there aren’t any at the moment, but apparently, it’s in the pipeline. So for the moment, this might be a turn-off for some people. Because all you can do right now is fly from planet to planet, shoot some stuff, find women, and then bring them back to your ship to get freaky.

And, at first, I wasn’t impressed. But then I thought about it for a while as I wrote some other parts of this review.

So many titles come out with pretty environments and plenty of quests and storylines but the rest is just fluff and garbage. AntiZero has taken a different approach. First, make sure that the entire foundation of the characters, movement, erotic play, customization, ships, environment, etc. is solid. Then, all you have to do is plug in a decent storyline with quests (that hopefully aren’t grindy).

I kind of like this approach the more I think about it. There’s enough X-rated content to keep us lovely pervs happy while everything is polished for a proper release.

However, there is a key aspect I really would love to know…

How open is AntiZero to its fan base and players to feedback or ideas on content, future storylines, and possible quests?

I’m curious about this mostly because game quests are so copy-and-paste now. “Go collect five of these”, “Kill 20 of those”, “Escort this person here”. I swear any time I get an escort quest that has zero value to the storyline … I just want to shoot the target myself and dance on their corpse.

I say this because I see how much love and dedication the developer has put into the game. I would hate to see it blemished by a bad story and poor quest integration.

So far, things seem to be a bit “male seeking kinky, submissive female” – which you see a lot in porn games. And in the endless expanses of spaces, you would think there would be more than boobs and whatnot. I don’t think there are going to be tentacles (sad face) but what about stuff along the rest of the scale? After all, human fantasies run deep even if we don’t whisper about them after a few glasses of booze.

However, the good news is the dev said he’s going to be adding more features in the future to accommodate any gender. At the moment, there are placeholders like improvements on the strap-ons and toys that can be used by any gender.

Not to mention anyone playing the game can choose any Lovense toy that makes their happy bits shiver with extra-terrestrial delight. So, yay!

Side Note: I think it’s worth mentioning that this isn’t being done by a big company –  just one guy. So the output is actually impressive.

Keeping in mind that some of these might not be pros or cons depending on the person, but I’ve still laid them out where I thought most people might put them.

Real-time Sensations: Being able to sync a sex toy to an adult game (especially one that has unlimited erotic opportunities) is wonderfully insane. Let’s just say, you’d better stay hydrated.

Highly Customizable: The amount of time the developer has put into the ability for the player to customize the models (right down to the tiniest detail) is quite impressive.

Updates & Transparency: There are plenty of regular updates on what has been completed, what is being worked on, and what is planned (on a micro scale). Then there is a clear plan for the larger-scale launch of the game. To see these updates, you have to become a Patreon member, but it’s the lowest tier and really cheap.

Beautiful Graphics and Details: For a game that only costs $10 a month to play, you’re getting some seriously beautiful imagery to immerse yourself in. The dev really hasn’t spared any time or expense in this area.

Lot’s to Play With: There are sex toys, character changes, model positioning, sandbox mode, etc. For a WIP, you’ll still have plenty to explore. Even if you just want to try it for one month to get a feel if you want to continue paying or wait for the final product.

Cost Considerations: Some might say that “oh, it’s cheap” blah, blah, blah. But we should never assume anyone’s budget. There is a cost to playing this game (aside from the free Demo). The minimum is $10 a month. But the real investment is if you wanted to go into the VR aspect or invest in a Lovense toy.

Technical Limitations: This entirely depends on what kind of computer and connection you’re working with. If you’re on an over-heating, plastic paperweight, dinosaur-era laptop like me, you might have issues playing.

Minimal Battle: If you want to go around wiping out entire populations of creatures, this might not be the game for you currently there is some pew-pew stuff going on. I don’t see any specific details about battle-aspect in the release calendar, but it might be lumped in with the storyline. Dunno.

No Storyline or Quest: This is a temporary con. AntiZero has already said this is in the pipeline. But if you’re desperate for one now, and collecting sex partners isn’t enough, you might want to wait.

Not Finished & Buggy: Although the game is clear it’s not finished, anyone impatient for a complete product might lose interest quickly. My suggestion? Try the free demo then come back when there’s more completed. And you will encounter bugs. There’s no way around it because this is a working project.

Note: If you love being part of the report-and-polish process, reporting bugs after key updates are essential to testing and delivering a better final product. It can be a joy for certain people. Not me. But I love all of you that do this.

All in all, I was really impressed with this game – more than most I’ve reviewed on this blog. It’s clear that AntiZero has put an enormous amount of time and emotional investments into making what some people are already calling one of the best VR porn games on the market.

Even with all the cons (which many are temporary), there are so many pros that make it worth looking at. At minimum, I definitely recommend trying the demo. Then, if you’re grinning and slippery afterward, try a one-month Patreon membership (which you can cancel right after if you want).

And, if you want to go absolutely nuts in the pleasure department, you can look into getting a Lovense sex toy to sync with the plethora of sex scenes.

With the graphics, play options, customizations, future updates, and so much more, I 100% recommend Captain Hardcore VR.
