What Are Yoni Eggs – And Why You Should Steer Clear

You might have heard the term Yoni Eggs before – and probably some show mocking them or a website promising the moon. But if you haven’t, that’s okay.

All you need to know is that you shouldn’t use them. But let’s look at the “why” in more detail.

WHAT ARE YONI EGGS? FIRST THINGS FIRST

No one can agree on where yoni eggs first came into play, but at least a vast majority of people can at least say they popped up somewhere in ancient China and were widely used by concubines – the idea being they would exercise their vaginas into a monstrosity of pleasure that would capture the gaze (and penis) of the king and allow them to climb up the imperial ladder.

SO, WHAT ARE YONI EGGS?

These egg-shaped lumps of jade or amethyst made a big comeback when a certain movie star raved about them on her website (the same one that encourages vaginal steaming, which is another practice you should avoid).

The belief that certain crystals will carry certain energies or life mending properties isn’t new either – things like onyx bracelts to take away impurities etc.

WHY STEER CLEAR?

Well, it all boils down to porosity – which is something that comes up within the sex toy and sexual wellness market again and again.

If something is porous, it has microscopic crevices that can’t be reached by soap, water, or any cleaning material. Therefore, whatever gets in there, stays in there – which can breed bacteria, mold, and other nasties you really don’t want to be putting up your hoo-haw.

WHAT ARE YONI EGGS ALTERNATIVES?

Yoni eggs are just a tool to help a woman with Kegel exercises – flexes that strengthen the pelvic floor. This helps with better orgasms because the vaginal walls can contract harder (great for lads and ladies alike). But it is also good for general health – like for women who have had kids or have incontinence issues.

And to do those, all you need are regular Kegel balls – which come in many orb sizes and much safer materials – like high-grade silicone or medical stainless steel. There are also ones that are certified as health devices. And some even have app games that let you flex without it being boring (and can also tell you if you’re doing it correctly).

BUT YOU LOVE CRYSTALS?

If rocks are your thing, no worries. Use whatever floats your boat. But just don’t put them inside you. Instead (as you’re laying down doing your Kegels with proper balls) lay a few on your belly or whoever you feel you need it. It’s a win-win situation!
