You\u2019ve seen it in the movies or on television \u2013 a hot and steamy shower scene or two people locked in a passionate embrace as the waves roll over them\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, REAL water sex isn\u2019t the same as in the movies. Not at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can it be fun? Hell yes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it also comes with a pretty extensive list of cautions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1. DIFFERENT WATER = DIFFERENT PROBLEMS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

While there are issues with water sex that span across all types and locations, there are also specific problems with each one \u2013 and most will leave your skin crawling. So, as your aquatic scenery changes, you\u2019ll have to change your mindset and list of dos or don\u2019ts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. PUBLIC POOLS OR HOT TUBS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

In general, publicly shared water isn\u2019t that clean <\/strong>(at least not in the way we imagine it or expect it to be). Even if the caretakers use chlorine correctly, it doesn\u2019t mean that 100% of the nastiness will be killed off, particularly some bacteria \u2013 and some of it could find its way into the vagina or urethra (women have a greater chance of infection, but there\u2019s still a chance for men too).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THINK ABOUT IT:<\/strong><\/span> If children use the space, you KNOW at least one of them has peed in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pools also require a PH balance, and that PH level isn\u2019t kind to women\u2019s delicate vagina tissue. It\u2019s also worth mentioning that poor PH maintenance makes it harder for chlorine to do its job properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of it all, there\u2019s the chance of getting caught \u2013 which might be hot for some couples, but I wouldn\u2019t risk it since it can lead to a ban from the property or even trespassing charges (maybe worse if the owner isn\u2019t the forgiving type).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. OCEANS, RIVERS, AND LAKES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natural bodies of water aren\u2019t much better. There\u2019s animal waste, plant debris, bacteria, microorganisms, unseen pollutants, and even runoff from farming.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oceans might be better than a public pool, but the salt levels are terrible for the vagina<\/strong> and can lead to infections or, at minimum, irritations and stinging!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next is SAND, and even if you\u2019re careful, it can get into\u2026 places.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. IN THE SHOWER OR BATHTUB<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of all your water options, this will be the best choice<\/strong>. Many of the irritants won\u2019t be there and you\u2019ll have more privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, don\u2019t ignore the risk of SLIPPING. Take every precaution that you have safe footing and something solid to hang onto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. WATER ISN\u2019T LUBRICANT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Any sort of water will wash away your body\u2019s natural lubricant and end up causing unwanted friction and discomfort. This friction can also cause small tears (micro-abrasions) which can increase the risk of infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE:<\/strong> <\/span>Two common infections are bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your best choice will be a silicone-based lube<\/strong> (water-based will wash away and oil-based will degrade condoms)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. CONDOMS AND WATER DON\u2019T MIX<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

On the note of protection, condoms and water don\u2019t play well with each other. This sucks because it\u2019s one of the easiest and most common contraceptives and protection against STIs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water can wash away lubricant and spermicide. Oils, shampoos, chlorine, soap, bubbles, etc. increase the chance of condom degradation and breakage \u2013 oh, and hot water doesn\u2019t help either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s also the chance it will slip off mid-stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re going to go the condom route (which you still should), put it on and hold it in place before you dive in<\/strong>, and pay attention that it doesn\u2019t slip off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. WATER DOESN\u2019T STOP PREGNANCY OR DISEASES  <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re in an F\/M relationship, and your partner ejaculates inside you, there is still the normal risk of getting pregnant <\/strong>\u2013 sorry, water doesn\u2019t wash away sperm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also worth mentioning (because some people don\u2019t know this for forget it) that pre-ejaculation fluid can contain sperm. So, the pull-out method still isn\u2019t a great contraceptive, even in water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, no matter what gender coupling you\u2019re in, water isn\u2019t a barrier against STIs<\/strong> \u2013 so ignore any \u201cadvice\u201d that chlorine kills these nasties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. EJACULATION OUTSIDE THE BODY IS DIFFERENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cumming in the water (rather than in your partner) has its own set of rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, you can\u2019t get pregnant this way<\/strong>. Sperm requires a very specific environment to survive \u2013temperature, PH etc. And while it can survive in the female body for several days, it will most likely die fast in your pool or the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE:<\/strong> <\/span>Remember what we said about chlorine not killing STIs? Remember that before you drop your little guys in the pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. <\/strong><\/span>PLAY A<\/span><\/strong> DIFFERENT WAY<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Sex isn\u2019t only<\/em> about intercourse. And, considering all the risks with sex and water, it\u2019s good to take a different pleasure path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MASTURBATION<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Use your hands to get yourself or each other off (but be careful with fingering and scratching the vagina or you\u2019ll still have problems).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ORAL SEX<\/strong> <\/span>\u2013 This is a great option for the shower (don\u2019t try it with public or natural waters though).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JUST KISSING<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Hot and heavy kissing and dry humping can be equally as fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEX TOYS<\/strong> <\/span>\u2013 Penetrative toys can still push in water or cause friction, so I would recommend something like a clit vibrator or a magic wand \u2013 just make sure it\u2019s WATERPROOF (not water \u201cresistant\u201d or \u201csplash-proof\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
