That was the case for a couple caught having sex in a military museum in Poland. The museum’s management and the public’s reaction to the incident have been nothing short of a hilarious mixture of reactions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGerhard’s Fort \u2013 also known as the Eastern Fort, is one of the forts of the \u015awinouj\u015bcie Fortress. It is one of the best preserved nineteenth-century Prussian coastal forts in Europe and since 2010 it has been the seat of the Museum of Coastal Defense in \u015awinouj\u015bcie – the largest private institution of this type in Poland, gathering over 2000 exhibits related to the development of the \u015awinouj\u015bcie Fortress over the last 300 years.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>About us \u2013 Fort Gerharda (fort-gerharda.pl)<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The original fort was located in such a convenient location that it stood strong for four centuries of military service. These optimal conditions made for the first modern fortifications of the time were built more than a kilometer from the mouth of the straight. But it was only a wood and earth structure as well as considered to be a semi-permanent building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This ended up being damaged at the end of a 7-year War. Surprisingly this is still the most durable and oldest preserved part of the fortification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first half of the 19th century, after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, not much was going on. So the fort wasn’t updated until 1837. And then in 1846, it was decided to convert the space into a naval Fortress. Remember that this original location was at the mouth of a straight so a naval structure made perfect sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time for An Upgrade<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

In the mid-19 the Fortress received another upgrade – which was, at the time, considered to be incredibly modern <\/strong>– with each section of the fort and battery being designed to perfectly fulfill whatever task it was designated for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, these individual sections were also intentionally bound together for a unified concept to defend the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These projects went from 1848 to 1859. It was also one of the two key constructions of the Fortress. On one hand, it was intended to defend the entrance of the port (and built to mimic Prussian characteristics of fortifications at that time). The other being, obviously, a place to house naval ships and artillery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we get to the 70s of the 19th century when armored ships were the new form of defense. They changed the course of the moat and built new ramparts, 11 new artillery positions, and multiple new cannon positions. Extra defenses included new ammunition magazines, powder magazines, barrack rooms, shelter firehouses for cannons, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When electricity and telegraph lines were brought into the fort it became even more essential when The Great War <\/strong>came and allowed them to participate in key ways in a new kind of warfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After World War I, under the Treaty of Versailles, the fort was partially disarmed and passed to the management of the German Navy and played a partial war role until the end of World War II. It was used by the Russians. After that when they left the fort it was turned into warehouses and then abandoned. <\/strong>The new birth of Fort Gerhard came in the first half of 2001 when it started its new life as a tourist spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, Fort Gerhard has a long history it had, a lot of space. It also has hundreds of years worth of military items. From guns to uniforms and cannons to maps (and let’s be honest, some of those war-type things turn people on). They also have displays to mimic certain situations of certain time periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This military museum is already popular. And the items in it are extremely valuable, and in some cases priceless. This is why management decided to install CCTV cameras throughout the fort to keep a better eye on their Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they found was not at all what they expected. Instead of people trying to sneak souvenirs, they found a couple in a dark corner getting it on. And not just that, over the course of a month, they found two more couples engaging in naughty acts in the shadowy corners of the museum’s exhibits.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Museum’s reaction was, on one hand, what you would expect – they posted signs saying that CCTV cameras were monitoring all areas of the museum. Also, on their social media and signs throughout the establishment, they would put reminders to visitors basically not to have sex. However, it was their wording that was kind of adorable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
